FAQs

What is coaching?

Coaching is partnership between the Coach and the Client in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires the client to maximise personal and professional potential.

It is designed to facilitate the creation/development of personal, professional, or business goals and to develop and carry out a strategy/plan for achieving those goals - International Coaching Federation.

How can coaching help me?

Some of the benefits of coaching are:

  • Gain clarity on who you are what you want and how you will get it

  • The ability to overcome limiting beliefs and increase your self-confidence, self- belief, and self-esteem

  • The motivation to set and achieve your goals

  • Take greater responsibility and accountability for actions and commitments

  • A stronger mindset and resilience and feeling a greater sense of control

  • A better relationship with yourself and the people around you

What is the difference between coaching and therapy?

Coaching may address specific personal projects, business successes, or general conditions in the client’s life or profession. Coaching focuses on the present, what is here now and what clients want to create for the future, and how they will get there.

Therapy (counselling/psychotherapy) is process in which a client works with a healthcare professional to diagnose and treat psychological issues or trauma often related to events of the past. Therapy focuses on the past to understand the present.

How do I book a coaching session?

The first step is to book in your free 30-minute introductory coaching session via the contact page or email claire@clairemackenziecoaching.co.uk. I’ll get back to you within 24 hours to schedule a date and time for the session. If we decide to work together, we will agree a start date during the introductory coaching session.

Are our sessions confidential?

Yes, our coaching relationship is 100% confidential and non-judgemental. I will not be telling anyone you are my client and I will not reveal the content of our coaching sessions to anyone. This is sacred. You are free to share whatever you choose from our sessions with anyone. I am a member of the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and adhere to their code of ethics and standards https://coachfederation.org/code-of-ethics

How will I know if we are good fit?

I offer a free no-obligation 30-minute coaching introduction telephone call. This session is an opportunity for you to ask questions about coaching, you’ll get an idea of what it is like coaching with me and to see if we are a good fit.

Why do I offer a free session? Our relationship is the most important element of coaching. My role as your coach is to support and champion you and we work together to create an effective coaching relationship that meets your needs.

I am good at what I do, but I may not be for you. You also need to be committed and ready to move forward to create the life you really want.

It’s not a bad idea to speak to more than one coach. I’d advise checking they are qualified, checking you like them and then trusting your instinct.

How and when does the coaching take place?

Whether it is an individual session or the first session of a coaching package, we start with a Discovery session. This session is 90 minutes and takes place via Zoom video/audio call, Skype or WhatsApp audio call depending on your preference.

Subsequent coaching sessions are 60 minutes and conducted via Zoom video/audio call, Skype or WhatsApp audio call depending on your preference.

How many and how often should I have coaching sessions?

How many sessions depends on your goals and what you want to achieve from coaching. You might need a couple of coaching sessions, or you might need more to achieve a specific goal. A minimum of three sessions is recommended.

The coaching package offers six coaching sessions scheduled over a three-month period. Sessions are usually scheduled either weekly or fortnightly depending on how fast or slow clients want to proceed. Usually clients begin with weekly sessions to kick start a change and then progress with less frequent sessions.

What is the payment method?

Payment for both programmes can either be made via a one-off payment or you can opt to make payment in two monthly instalments.

The payment schedule for 2 instalments as follows

  • First payment should be made at least 48 hours prior to the first coaching session

  • Second payment to be made the following month

I will send an invoice or payment link (I use SumUp) for payment of each instalment.

Can I cancel the coaching once I have signed up?

You have the option to end the coaching, if you do not feel you are getting what you need from the coaching relationship. You (Client) and I (Coach) agree to provide each other with 14-days’ notice in the event either wishes to cancel the agreement, and a refund will be issued for any unused sessions that have been paid in advance and are scheduled after the termination date.
